We are big on parties around here. Any reason just pulls us into a celebration. We do find many reasons to get together and make a toast.
Regardless of how big or small the party might be, as hosts, we do want to make a mark. Lately we have been doing a lot of themed get-togethers. We have done: The seventies party, Flip flop girl afternoon mimosa party, Carnival Sunday for the kids, Champagne and cheese night, Chinese New Year celebration. This year, we even had an “After New Year’s Party” where we re-enacted as many midnight traditions around the world as we could since we couldn’t do it on the 31rst. It was fun, hilarious and educational. We totally recommend it.
Even having a themed party sometimes is not enough to make it memorable. So, when we had our “discover the garden” party we gave guests (the kids) a side tunnel entrance that took them to a garden full of fun activities. For our Champagne and Cheese night, we made sure everyone took home a special bottle of bubbly. When we moved, we didn’t tell anyone we had, and had all of our guests meet us at our new empty house with their favorite beer. It was fabulous to see their surprise and enjoy the night away.
But how do we really spice it up? Well, the real truth is that whenever there is a group together, we somehow gravitate towards food. Good food speaks volumes. To be quite honest, when we go to parties we appreciate the care the host takes to put the menu together or choose what will be passed around.
Because of our busy schedules, more and more, we go for the amazingly tasty and wonderfully easy to prepare and serve.
So, more and more, we stick to appetizers.
What are the basic crowd pleasers?
For our group, no doubt, it is cheese.
